Shields O'Donnell MacKillop LLP is committed to community service. The firm is a proud supporter of LIFE, the Ride for Heart, Lawyers Feed the Hungry, and a number of other not-for-profit and charitable causes in which our lawyers are actively involved.

LIFE

Lawyers’ International Food Enterprise is an organization of lawyers whose mission is to raise awareness among members of the legal profession with respect to child poverty around the world and to further advance the profession’s commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility by encouraging the legal community to provide financial support to selected charitable organizations.

Every year, SOM LLP hosts LIFE’s annual fundraiser, Rock for Life, which raises funds in support of the Stephen Lewis Foundation and World Vision. To learn more about LIFE, visit the website at www.lifelawyers.ca or contact Malcolm MacKillop directly.

Ride for Heart

Every year SOM LLP participates in the Ride for Heart in support of the Heart & Stroke Foundation. Our lawyers join nearly 14,000 other riders as a Corporate Team to raise money for heart and stroke research and treatments in Canada.

Lawyers Feed the Hungry

The firm is also an active supporter of Lawyers Feed the Hungry, hosted by the Law Society Foundation. The program fights hunger year-round in Toronto and other Ontario centres by providing meals and financial support to hunger relief organizations. The firm’s lawyers sponsor a meal at the Law Society and attend to assist the organization’s dedicated volunteers in providing hot meals to the programs many patrons.

Recipients must demonstrate a commitment to academics, extra-curricular activities and community involvement.  In 2016, the Merit Award granted 152 bursaries to students from 48 participating high schools in Toronto.

For more information on the program visit www.meritaward.ca.

Bikes4Kids

Malcolm MacKillop, senior partner of Shields O’Donnell MacKillop LLP, is a proud donor to the Bikes4Kids charitable initiative, which purchases and refurbishes bicycles to donate to children in need in the Greater Toronto Area. As a result of generous donations, on June 17, 2022, Bikes4Kids was able to provide 50 new bicycles to children at a select TDSB school, ensuring that every child in an entire third-grade class was given a new bicycle to enjoy.

Malcolm is pleased to support Bikes4Kids, believing that every child should have the opportunity to realize the happiness of owning a bicycle, regardless of their economic circumstances, and recognizes the importance of physical activity in the mental health and development of young children.
